How do I become a member?

HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER?

We’re glad you’re here.  You may have questions; we have some answers!

What is required for membership at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church?

Our membership requirements are simple:

1.      Make a private confession and a public profession of your faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior

2.      Be willing to cooperate with the faith, practice and program of this church.

Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church may receive members in the following ways:

1. By Baptism — Applicants for membership by baptism may be accepted at any service or via notification utilizing our Intouch Card. It is expected that approved applicants will be baptized as early as possible or practical. The Pastor reserves the right to determine qualifications for approval. Applicants are not enrolled as members of the Church until after their baptism.

2. By Letter — Applicants for membership by letter are accepted upon presentation of a letter from a Baptist Church of like faith and order. It is expected that the applicant has been baptized into the membership of a Baptist Church.

When the applicant for membership by letter does not have the letter in hand, the Clerk of the Church may aid in securing the letter upon request from the applicant. In the absence of a letter a person can be admitted by Christian Experience.

3. By Christian Experience — Applicants may be received upon their own statements affirming saving faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and baptism by immersion in a Baptist Church of like faith and order.

4. By Restoration — A member of Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church, who has been dismissed from the fellowship for any cause, may be restored upon an open confession to the Church and a request for restoration.

How do I join or make some other commitment to Christ?

You may go to the front of the Worship Center at the conclusion of the service and share your decision with one of our Christian Workers.  You do not have to say anything openly to the congregation.   You may also join those who do come forward after service in a private room and talk to one of our Christian Workers about your desire for membership or your need for prayer.

A. Baptism

A candidate for baptism, after completing our membership class, and indicating agreement with the Membership Covenant and Personal Confession of Faith, will be baptized and become a member of our church.

Those who have not been scripturally baptized by immersion will attend our membership class, indicate agreement with the Membership Covenant and Professional Confession of Faith, be baptized by immersion and become a member of our church.

B. Transferring Your Membership

A person transferring from another Baptist church may be received by letter and upon completion of the membership class and signing a statement indicating agreement with the Membership Covenant and Personal Confession of Faith shall become a member of our church.

What about my children?

When a child is ready to make a commitment to Christ they may come forward during the invitation.  Trained counselors will deal sensitively with the child.  Information about the child’s next step will be shared with the parents. Upon completion of an age-graded membership class, believer’s baptism, and upon signing a statement indicating agreement with the Membership Covenant and Personal Confession of Faith, the child will become a member of the church.
