New to Good Hope?
What does the church believe?
1. ABOUT GOD
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.
Genesis 1:1,26,27; 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; I Peter 1:2; II Corinthians 13:14
2. ABOUT JESUS CHRIST
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three day to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.
Matthew 1:22, 23; Isaiah 9:6; Zechariah 14:1-11, 20-21; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14,15; 1 Corinthians15:3,4; Romans 1:3,4; Acts 1:9-11; I Timothy 6:14,15; Titus 2:13; Revelations 19:11-16
3. ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding the spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians we seek to live under His control daily.
II Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 4:16-17; Acts 1:8; I Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18
4. ABOUT THE BIBLE
The Bible is God’s Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without any mixture of error.
II Timothy 1:13, 3:16; II Peter 1:20, 21; Psalm 119:105, 160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5
5. ABOUT HUMAN BEINGS
People are made in the spiritual image of God and are to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin”. This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life.
Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3:-6: Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1,2
6. ABOUT SALVATION
Salvation is God’s free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.
Roman 6:23; Ephesians 2:8,9; John 14:6, 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1
7. ABOUT ETERNAL SECURITY
Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. If you have been genuinely saved, you cannot “lose” it. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives us this security.
John 10:29; II Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25, 10:10-14; I Peter 1:3-5
8. ABOUT ETERNITY
People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.
John 3:16; John 14:17; Romans 6:23, 8:17-18; Revelation 20:15; I Corinthians 2:7-9

What do I wear?
No matter what your personal style, at Good Hope, we want you to feel comfortable. If you prefer dressy, business, or casual attire, chances are there will be others dressed much like you no matter when you visit. Sunday mornings are a time when many prefer to dress up a bit, but even if jeans are more your style, you’ll be right at home with us. Typically, Wednesday evenings are slightly more casual than Sunday morning.
Preschoolers and children learn while they play. We encourage hands on play so that children are learning through all their senses. Painting and other “messy” activities are also encouraged, so use your own judgment about how dressed up your child is while at church.
Our Middle and High School students usually dress casually on Sunday and Wednesday evenings because games and sporting events are often held outside and sometimes involve getting messy.

WHAT STEPS DO I TAKE TO BECOMING ALL THAT GOD WANTS ME TO BE?
God wants you to take your next step spiritually. That could mean getting baptized, committing to take time to dig into the Bible on a daily basis, or maybe God wants you to see what His Word has to say about why you exist. Good Hope’s DISCOVERY system is all about those next steps.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Imagine a baseball diamond. At first base, our membership class, you’ll get the foundation of our CLASS series. Then head to second base, where you’ll find the tools to develop a closer relationship with God. Then third base, you’ll begin to see how God specifically SHAPE’d you for ministry (Spiritual gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality and Experience). As you head for home plate, CLASS 401, will help you discover your life’s mission of sharing God with the world.
The classes take place every 2nd Sunday at 1:30 pm, beginning with a free lunch in the Fellowship Hall.
To register for the Discovery Class select this link: (Discovery Class Registration)
Back to the topWhat should I do if I am not a Christian?
1. ADMIT THAT GOD HAS NOT BEEN FIRST PLACE IN YOUR LIFE AND ASK HIM TO FORGIVE YOU OF YOUR SINS.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from every wrong.” I John 1:9
2. BELIEVE THAT JESUS DIED TO PAY FOR YOUR SINS AND THAT HE ROSE AGAIN ON EASTER, AND IS ALIVE TODAY.
“If you confess that Jesus is your Lord, and you believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name (Jesus) by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
3. ACCEPT GOD’S FREE GIFT OF SALVATION. DON’T TRY TO EARN IT.
“For it is by grace you are saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8,9
Our relationship to God is not restored by anything we do, but on the basis of what Jesus has already done for us!
4. INVITE JESUS CHRIST TO COME INTO YOUR LIFE AND BE THE DIRECTOR (“LORD”) OF YOUR LIFE.
“To all who received Him, He gives the right to become children of God. All we need to do is trust Him to save us. All those who believe this are reborn! – not a physical rebirth…but from the will of God!.” John 1:12-13
YOU CAN TAKE THESE STEPS BY PRAYING A SIMPLE PRAYER OF COMMITMENT TO GOD:
“Dear Jesus, thank you for making me and loving me, even when I’ve ignored you and gone my own way. I realize I need you in my life and I’m sorry for my sins. I ask you to forgive me. Thank you for dying on the cross for me. Please help me to understand it more. As much as I know how, I want to follow you from now on. Please come into my life and make me a new person inside. I accept your gift of salvation. Please help me to grow now as a Christian.”
“…Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13
Back to the topHow do I become a member?
HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER?
We’re glad you’re here. You may have questions; we have some answers!
What is required for membership at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church?
Our membership requirements are simple:
1. Make a private confession and a public profession of your faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
2. Be willing to cooperate with the faith, practice and program of this church.
Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church may receive members in the following ways:
1. By Baptism — Applicants for membership by baptism may be accepted at any service or via notification utilizing our Intouch Card. It is expected that approved applicants will be baptized as early as possible or practical. The Pastor reserves the right to determine qualifications for approval. Applicants are not enrolled as members of the Church until after their baptism.
2. By Letter — Applicants for membership by letter are accepted upon presentation of a letter from a Baptist Church of like faith and order. It is expected that the applicant has been baptized into the membership of a Baptist Church.
When the applicant for membership by letter does not have the letter in hand, the Clerk of the Church may aid in securing the letter upon request from the applicant. In the absence of a letter a person can be admitted by Christian Experience.
3. By Christian Experience — Applicants may be received upon their own statements affirming saving faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and baptism by immersion in a Baptist Church of like faith and order.
4. By Restoration — A member of Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church, who has been dismissed from the fellowship for any cause, may be restored upon an open confession to the Church and a request for restoration.
How do I join or make some other commitment to Christ?
You may go to the front of the Worship Center at the conclusion of the service and share your decision with one of our Christian Workers. You do not have to say anything openly to the congregation. You may also join those who do come forward after service in a private room and talk to one of our Christian Workers about your desire for membership or your need for prayer.
A. Baptism
A candidate for baptism, after completing our membership class, and indicating agreement with the Membership Covenant and Personal Confession of Faith, will be baptized and become a member of our church.
Those who have not been scripturally baptized by immersion will attend our membership class, indicate agreement with the Membership Covenant and Professional Confession of Faith, be baptized by immersion and become a member of our church.
B. Transferring Your Membership
A person transferring from another Baptist church may be received by letter and upon completion of the membership class and signing a statement indicating agreement with the Membership Covenant and Personal Confession of Faith shall become a member of our church.
What about my children?
When a child is ready to make a commitment to Christ they may come forward during the invitation. Trained counselors will deal sensitively with the child. Information about the child’s next step will be shared with the parents. Upon completion of an age-graded membership class, believer’s baptism, and upon signing a statement indicating agreement with the Membership Covenant and Personal Confession of Faith, the child will become a member of the church.
I still have some questions.
God loves you and we really care about you. If we can help, please call 713-524-6578, Monday – Thursday from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM and Fridays from 8:00 AM to noon
Thanks again for being our guest.
