P.R.A.Y.ing Your Way Thru Life
D.Z. Cofield, Th.M., D. Min.
Each of us is challenged to learn how to P.R.A.Y., and when we think about praying one hour, for many of us it is an intimidating, almost impossible ask. This prayer guide is intended to help you see prayer as more than simply talking to God. Prayer includes much more than that, and if you give yourself at least fifteen minutes in each area, you will commune with God at least sixty minutes.
1. You must P.R.A.Y. your way thru life by giving PRAISE to God.
Ephesians 5:20 (ESV) – giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Spend at least 15 minutes PRAISING GOD! Whether it’s music, reading the psalms or simply thanking God for what he’s done and who He is, GIVE GOD THE PRAISE.
2. You must P.R.A.Y. your way thru life by REPENTING of your SIN.
Matthew 4:17 (ESV) – From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Spend at least 15 minutes REPENTING for what you’ve thought or done that’s been contrary to how God wants you to live. Remember – repenting is more than just saying you’re sorry and asking for forgiveness. It’s making a commitment to not doing again what you’re repenting for.
3. You must P.R.A.Y. your way thru life by ASKING God for HELP.
Matthew 7:7-11 (ESV) – “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”
Spend at least 15 minutes ASKING God for what you need, always being cognizant of the difference between what you need and what you want.
4. You must P.R.A.Y. your way thru life by YIELDING to God’s DIRECTION for your life.
2 Chronicles 30:8 (ESV) – Do not now be stiff-necked as your fathers were, but yield yourselves to the LORD and come to his sanctuary, which he has consecrated forever, and serve the LORD your God, that his fierce anger may turn away from you
Spend at least 15 minutes in silence, meditating and allowing God to speak to you. The question is not is God speaking, but are you listening. Remember – God can speak in a number of ways. Learn to hear what God is saying.
